Preliminary project - Beth

I have written about my preliminary project on my old group’s page, ‘bethfayhattymatty.blogspot.com’ but here’s a brief summary of what process we went through to create our project.
Location
When choosing the location, we looked at a few possibilities; the options were either in a pub, where we would film an equilibrium scene of two locals having a conversation. This would have been easy to film and fit all the camera technicalities, but would have also been boring to watch as the story line wouldn’t engage the audience. Another problem with using the pub was getting permission to film in there as we are all under 18. The next location we considered was the cellars at the school. By using these, we could have created a horror genre which would engage the audience. However, having visited them and doing a risk assessment, they were too dangerous to film in and it would have been awkward to film out of college hours. The final location we considered was using the ‘everyday’ setting of the family home. This meant we could easily film the technical camera angles and it was easily accessible to film out of college.
Storyline
To create our storyline we ‘brainstormed’ our ideas on an A3 page. Whilst we were doing this we had to consider the setting that we had already chosen so we had to have a storyline that fits in with the setting in terms of genre. Once we had the main ideas for our film, we then storyboarded them where we could think into more detail about how each bit would be filmed and set. So we were ready to film.
Filming
We did most of the filming outside of college hours. We already knew how each scene was going to be filmed and staged so it was just a case of setting up the location with props etc. and filming it. We filmed each scene at least 3 times so it gave us more to work with when editing.
Editing
The editing was the hardest part of the process but once we had uploaded our video we could then play around with clips and see what editing worked well. We tried to add quick cuts and cut out any unwanted noise or filming.
